WOMEN'S TENNIS PICKED SIXTH IN CACC PRESEASON POLL

8-31-05

CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College women's tennis team was ranked sixth in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference preseason tennis poll based on voting by the league's seven head coaches. This is the first season that the CACC is sponsoring women's tennis, with the winner of the conference tournament earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament next spring.

Last season the Cougars went 8-4-1, the best record in the 10-year history of the program. First-year head coach Jennifer Carleton has five players back from that squad, including senior Oksana Manoukian (Old Tappan, NJ/Rutgers), pictured, the Cougars' top singles and doubles player who had a perfect singles record of 11-0 in dual matches a year ago. Caldwell was 3-0 in duals against current CACC members, defeating Georgian Court, Holy Family and the University of the Sciences.

N.J.I.T. edged Philadelphia University for the top spot in the preseason poll by one point. Both teams participated in the NCAA Regional Tournament this past spring.
