WOMEN'S TENNIS PICKED FIFTH IN CACC PRESEASON POLL
8-28-06
CALDWELL,
N.J. - The Caldwell College women's tennis team is predicted to finish fifth
in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference this season, according to a
preseason poll conducted by the league's seven head coaches. The Cougars
took fifth in the conference standings in 2005, the first year that women's
tennis became a CACC championship sport.
Five players from last year's 3-8 squad return, including senior Oksana
Manoukian (Old Tappan, NJ/Northern Valley Regional). Manoukian, who
finished second at the 2005 CACC Singles Tournament, is 24-4 in singles
matches over the past two seasons, including a 19-1 mark in team duals.
Seniors Joellen Keaney (Oak Bluffs, MA/Martha's Vineyard Regional)
and Danielle O'Connell (South Amboy, NJ/St. John Vianney) also
return.
Philadelphia University received six first-place votes and was chosen as the
favorite to win the conference. Holy Family University garnered the other
first-place vote and was picked second. The conference gains a seventh
program this year as Post University has added women's tennis.
The Cougars open the 2006 season with a home match against CACC foe Holy
Family on Saturday, Sept. 9. The dual is set to start at 11:00 a.m. at the
Caldwell College Tennis Courts.
