MANOUKIAN CAPTURES NJAIAW SINGLES TITLE

N.J. - Senior Oksana Manoukian (Old Tappan, NJ/Northern Valley
Regional) defeated two players from Division I Princeton University to win the
New Jersey Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women Flight A Singles
Championship Sunday afternoon at Drew University. Manoukian, who has yet to
lose a singles match this season, outlasted the Tigers' Rachel Price in three
sets in the final to claim the title. The tournament included players from
Division I, II and III institutions in New Jersey.
Manoukian advanced to Sunday's semifinal round by defeating Maria Carroll of
Drew 8-3 and Hollis Grant from Ramapo 8-0 after a first-round bye. The
third-seeded Manoukian then dispatched Princeton's Natalie Arcario, seeded
second, Sunday morning to advance to the finals. Price, the fourth seed who
defeated top-seeded Kristin Tukel of Richard Stockton, took the first set 6-4.
But Manoukian battled back and won the next two sets, 6-3 and 6-2 for the
victory.
Manoukian, who also played singles and doubles matches in the Cougars' dual
against USP Sunday afternoon, is now 16-0 on the season and 40-4 in her
three-year career at Caldwell.
Manoukian plays in her final dual on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at Bloomsburg
University before preparing for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference
Individual Tournament on Oct. 21-22 in Philadelphia, Pa.
