MANOUKIAN CAPTURES NJAIAW SINGLES TITLE

10-8-06
MADISON, N.J. - Senior Oksana Manoukian (Old Tappan, NJ/Northern Valley Regional) defeated two players from Division I Princeton University to win the New Jersey Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women Flight A Singles Championship Sunday afternoon at Drew University. Manoukian, who has yet to lose a singles match this season, outlasted the Tigers' Rachel Price in three sets in the final to claim the title. The tournament included players from Division I, II and III institutions in New Jersey.

Manoukian advanced to Sunday's semifinal round by defeating Maria Carroll of Drew 8-3 and Hollis Grant from Ramapo 8-0 after a first-round bye. The third-seeded Manoukian then dispatched Princeton's Natalie Arcario, seeded second, Sunday morning to advance to the finals. Price, the fourth seed who defeated top-seeded Kristin Tukel of Richard Stockton, took the first set 6-4. But Manoukian battled back and won the next two sets, 6-3 and 6-2 for the victory.

Manoukian, who also played singles and doubles matches in the Cougars' dual against USP Sunday afternoon, is now 16-0 on the season and 40-4 in her three-year career at Caldwell.

Manoukian plays in her final dual on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at Bloomsburg University before preparing for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Individual Tournament on Oct. 21-22 in Philadelphia, Pa.
